As BB
and his family take to a motor cruiser on the lovely river Nene, we follow
his adventures along the quiet byway. Starting off from Oundle making his way
downstream past Fotheringhay to Elton and on to Wadenhoe.
The river is a place of fish and fishers, of old English villages steeped in
rural history and the wealth of wildlife which inhabit around river.
BB conjures up, for the reader the fragrance of water mints, and the wild
wet weeds about the weirs, that river smell, through the unfolding
summer to the time that autumn cloaks the water
meadows and departing
swallows hold their parliaments upon the gold-lichened tiles of many an
ancient mill. |

In this the Centenary year of the birth of BB it gives me great pleasure
to mark this fact with the publication of
A Summer
On The Nene.
It's a book I've always loved and been drawn to, not because of the fact
it has glimpses of angling in its pages but because it paints such a
whole, complete picture of an English water environment, from the vivid
greenery of the natural scenery to the varied inhabitants that are all
connected and merged and mingled by the river.
A Summer On The Nene by BB is a limited
edition of just 600 copies of which only 30 will be fully bound in leather.
It will be signed and numbered by the publisher.
The book is over 150 pages long and is profusely illustrated by Denys
Watkins-Pitchford.
The full leather bindings are bound in Oasis goatskin, with gold tooled
front boards and spine design, coloured labels, 5 spine bands, gilded
fore edges and blind embossed back board, slip cased, with head-bands
and marker ribbon, |
