Foreword by

Britain’s Biggest Salmon is a small collection of essays
about one of the greatest fishing adventures ever.
The book is made up of a foreword by the actress and
fine fly fisher, Diana Rigg. Then an interview with Miss
Georgina Ballantine by Rozanne McPherson, which first
appeared in the Field magazine.
The book concludes with the capture of the salmon
written by Georgina herself only weeks after the epic
battle, which appeared in the Fishing Gazette in 1923.
From the foreword of Dame Diana Rigg
Miss Ballantine’s achievement is legendary and has
remained so for over eighty years. No man or woman has
ever caught a bigger salmon in Britain. I have seen her
fishing tackle displayed in Perth Museum; dusty, old
fashioned and, seemingly, hopelessly inadequate against
the goliath of a fish she had hooked.

I
remember being curiously touched looking at it and upon
reading the account of her long battle I was similarly
moved, but for different reasons. Miss Ballantine was
not just fighting to land an enormous fish, she was also
striking a blow against a long held prejudice...
