Jim Gibbinson
is an enthusiastic carp fisher who has taken a great
many big carp from waters all over Britain.
Never content to accept established fishing methods
without critical scrutiny, he has made a deep study of
carp fishing problems and in this book he combines his
answers with what he has found to be acceptable older
methods.
The result is a work that will be
of the greatest possible assistance not only to the novice but also the
experienced angler for what used to be regarded as a nearly uncatchable
species.
There are few angling
thrills to equal the capture of a monster carp of thirty
or even forty pounds. Jim Gibbinson's advice will
certainly enable many readers of his book to enjoy such
experiences

From the foreword by Tim Paisley
I have two first editions of Jim Gibbinson's first book,
Carp. One is in good condition, and is signed. I have
recently obtained a copy in even better condition, which
isn't signed. In the circumstances I can let neither
copy go, which is no great hardship because they are
treasured collectors items!
Jims 1968 "Carp" (there was
also a 1974 book by Jim of the same name, published by
Osprey) was the first technical/practical book devoted
entirely to carp fishing. It was also the first book
devoted solely to carp after BB's famed volume
Confessions of a Carp Fisher, published in 1953. As such
Jims book has historical significance, and a scarcity
value. That it is now being made more widely available
in a new edition through Tom O'Reillys inimitable style
of recreating scarce books will be welcomed by those
numerous carp book collectors unable to track down an
original copy.
The whole
edition is limited to only 685 signed copies,
of which there will be;
55 off Full leather bindings 630 off Hard
back with full colour dust wrapper.
The full leather bindings are bound in dark green Oasis
goatskin, with gold tooled front boards and spine
design, coloured labels, 5 spine bands, gilded fore
edges and blind embossed back board, slip cased, with
head-bands and marker ribbon.
The book is 173 pages long with the original black and
white photographs and pen and ink drawings by Tom
O'Reilly.
